Ballarat party-goers will ring in the new year with warm weather, with a mostly sunny day and forecast top of 27 degrees. But it won't be overly warm when the clock strikes midnight tonight- with Weatherzone forecasting 14 degrees at 12am Wednesday. Fire danger is high today.

Ballarat Police had nothing to report overnight. But later today Victoria Police is expected to issue a message to revelers, ahead of New Years Eve festivities tonight.

Ballarat City Fire crews attended to a small grass fire near the Ballarat airport last night.

The Wendouree and Ballarat City brigades attended the incident around 7pm.

The fire was contained at the scene.

Ballarat City Fire Senior Station Officer Mal Jones advised party-goers to be careful with their celebrations tonight.

"Be careful, take all the precautions and don't do anything overly dangerous like welding during the heat," Mr Jones said.

"Have a happy and safe new year."

Ambulance Victoria experienced a quiet night last night. An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman advised Ballarat residents to act responsibly when consuming alcohol tonight.

"The last place you'd want to spend the first day of the new year is in hospital," the spokeswoman said.
