Sisters Elisha Polkinghorne with Oliver and Kara Fleming with Cruz both gave birth at St John of God Hospital on the same day.
THE maternity ward at St John of God Hospital saw a series of coincidental events this week as two sisters gave birth to sons on the same day.
In adjoining hospital rooms, Kara Fleming and Elisha Polkinghorne both delivered their babies — with the same doctor — just two hours apart.
As her water broke at home, Kara rang Elisha for advice. “She told me to come straight up to the hospital because she was already here as well,” Kara said.
Just a few hours later Kara was holding 3.29kg (7lb 4oz) Cruz William while next door Elisha had 3.62kg (8lb) Oliver Michael in her arms.
“They have looked after us really well here and we both want to thank our doctor Deepika Monga for looking after us,” Elisha said.
Fathers Brendan Fleming and Michael Polkinghorne are already planning joint birthday and graduation celebrations.
“Everyone was joking it was a bit of a race to the finish line for both of us after nine months of pregnancy,” Kara said.
