NEWS OF THE WEEK

# MICHELLE Payne returns to race riding at Donald tomorrow.

Ironically, it was at Donald that she was a seriously injured in a fall on May 13 this year.

She was thrown to the ground when El Divine knuckled as it jumped out of the barrier.

She suffered five fractured vertebrae, two broken ribs and bruising to her face and chest in the fall.

Payne was cleared to return to trackwork riding late last month and

began riding in trials on July 30.

She was forced to do little but rest for the first six to eight weeks after the fall.

She gradually incorporated some gym work and running into her recovery.

“I feel great, one hundred per cent. I’m in no pain,” Payne told AAP.

She has four riding engagements at Donald, including first starter Centauraine, the Matthew Williams-trained Miss Belistic, Angel Falls from the Andrew Noblet stable and Angelou for Chris Ryan.
