CHFL: Crows still alive in race for finals

CRESWICK has kept Beaufort in the hunt for a Central Highlands Football League finals berth following a heart-breaking seven-point loss to Springbank this afternoon.

The Wickers led almost the entire day in shocking conditions at Wallace, only for the Tigers to mount a last-quarter attack that snatched a 3.7 (25) to 2.6 (18) win and confirmed their place in the top eight.

Creswick got as far as 13 points in front during the final term, before Springbank booted its only three goals of the match to steal the result.

The defeat leaves the Wickers still two points inside the eight following Daylesford's 38-point win over Beaufort, which remains ninth.

Victory, though, could have confirmed its place in finals for the first time since 1987. The Wickers now have to beat Rokewood-Corindhap next weekend to complete that mission.

Elsewhere, Lee Cox booted his 100th goal of the season in Hepburn's 52-point victory over the Grasshoppers.

Cox, who started the day on 96, finished with five goals as the Burras kicked away after trailing by 21 points at quarter time.

In other results, Learmonth upset Gordon by three points, Bungaree beat Ballan by 41 points, Waubra trounced Illabarook by 170 points, Buninyong thumped Carngham-Linton by 116 points, Clunes continued Skipton's run of narrow defeats, prevailing by 14 points and Newlyn secured a finals berth after beating Dunnstown by the same margin.
