Young Miners secure a Bendigo basketball classic title as juniors prepare to resume

BALLARAT tasted success at the Bendigo Junior Basketball Classic yesterday.

The Miners won the under-14B boys' title in the three-day Australian Day weekend tournament.

Ballarat defeated Colac Kookas 32-30 in the grand final.

It was not all smooth sailing though.

Ballarat lost its opening game to Bendigo 30-18 before stringing  together a series of wins.

The Miners defeated Melton 22-19, Colac 28-21 and Kyneton 44-24  in pool games and then Warrnambool 33-17 in a qualifying final and Melton 26-18 in a semi-final.

Ballarat Rush was runner-up in the under-16B girls' division. losing to Mildura Heat 33-29 in the  grand final yesterday.

 BACK IN FULL SWING

WITH school returning this week, most junior sports are resuming after a holiday break.

Ballarat Cricket Association and Ballarat Regional Tennis Centre, Mt Prospect Tennis Association and Buninyong District Tennis Association, pennant are among those getting juniors back into swing on Saturday.
