Sure enough, a local group of rednecks has sprung up, demanding the mosque should not be built, saying they will try to impose sharia law and a bunch of other spooky statements including that a mosque will lower the housing prices in the area.
The proposed location is at 116 Elsworth St East and I went there to check it out and the neighbourhood. It's an industrial junkyard for the most part and any new building there could only improve it.
In fact, bulldozing would improve it. If a mosque were to be built there, Muslim families would be interested in buying up all the houses in the area, demolishing to rebuild or restoring them and the value of houses would increase.
Scaremongers have all the rest of the city to hide in. Why would they bother to air their ignorance in such a public manner?
These bigots have the laughable name of Restore Australia. These people really ought to get out more and maybe meet some Muslims.
It's their brand of discrimination that makes people from other cultures want to introduce themselves and get to know people it actually slows down integration.
