Photographer Ed Dunens was up in a light plane at the crack of dawn this morning to take some incredible shots of the smoke.
"I was looking forward to it because I knew what to expect," he said.
"I wanted to get photos of the lake, but it was a little hazy."`
Mr Dunen said the pilot was a friend of his son who had been flying around parts of Victoria.
"You get the best photos when the conditions are the most extreme," he said.
Mr Dunens said the smoke had kept quite low meaning that once the plane reached 1000 feet they were above the haze and able to take the pictures.
The peaks of both Mount Buninyong and Mount Warrenheip appeared above the blanket of smoke.
However Mr Dunens said taking photos from a plane wasn't the easiest thing to do.
"It is quite difficult because you have to photograph through the canopy," he said.
"I got the best I could for the situation I was in."
The smoke is a result of the fires which have gripped parts of Victoria after the state sweltered through hot weather over the weekend.
