The Bungaree couple know what it is like to win the feature event.

Twenty-seven years ago they took out the Tontine Pacers Series title with Kentucky George.

Tonight they chase a second victory in the final – this time with Cobargo Jack.

After injury issues early in his career, the six-year-old is now racing well enough to suggest he can challenge leading contenders Flaming Flutter and Glenferrie EJ.

“He’s lucky,” said Allison Jobe, who late last year retired from the Ballarat and District Trotting Club committee after almost two decades in the role.

“Basically it’s been an education for him to race at a high level.

“He broke a pedal bone and often that is race-ending, but being young and being a back leg the vet said he had a chance,” she said.

“We had trouble with his gait when the pressure came on the home bend and it turned out he had fine cracks in the knee.

“We knew he had ability and even when he had those cracks that very first season he had eight starts with five seconds, two thirds and a fourth.”

Alison said luck would make or break Cobargo Jack’s race.

“The nice thing is he’s one off the fence and hopefully he’ll get a nice long straight at Ballarat and come home,” she said.

The 10-race program at Bray Raceway also features the group 3 $20,000 Tontine Trotters’ Series final, 2710m, and $20,000 AJ Prendergast Oaks Trial for three-year-old fillies, 2200m.

Unico Crown and Glenferrie Typhoon look major chances in the trotters’ final.

The Oaks Trial is set to paint a picture of the upcoming Victorian Oaks.

Group 1 winner Whereibylong is one of four starters for Smythes Creek trainer Emma Stewart and is the one to beat. Stewart also has Our Petite Soeur, Punch Line and Bettors Package.
