A police divisional van was pursuing an orange Holden Commodore sedan along Grandview Grove after it failed to pull over during a routine intercept.
The car then collided with a silver Corolla at the intersection of Grevillea Road just after 7pm.
The female passenger in the Commodore was trapped for a short time and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The male driver of the Commodore, a 39-year-old Sebastopol man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries where he'll remain under police guard.
One of the three occupants in the Corolla, a woman in her 70s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
There were two other occupants in the Corolla, a man in his 70s and a nine year old boy. Both received minor medical treatment at the scene.
Seven police cars were on scene, along with three ambulances.
Police taped off the street, which was closed to traffic between Grandview Grove and Yale Street.
Neighbours told The Courier that the vehicle was seen driving at high speed in the area shortly before the crash.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au.
