THE choice for Jon and Michelle Seccull to become organ donors was not an easy conversation.
But it was one the couple are glad they had. In 2011 they lost their three-year-old son Ethan “Jimmy” Seccull in a tragic train accident.
“We both sat there holding his hands (in hospital) coming to the realisation that we would not be able to take him home,” Mr Seccull recalled.
Since then, the Secculls have become the poster family for organ donation.
This week marks the beginning of DonateLife Week, promoting organ and tissue donation.
Ballarat Health Services chief executive Andrew Rowe said that with one organ and tissue donor able to transform the lives of 10 or more people, it was a conversation that could one day save lives.
Mrs Seccull said the conversation to become an organ donor did not have to be extensive, it just had to happen.
