Humffray Street North will reverberate to the sights and sounds of music and art on Saturday when Ballarat Arts Alive’s first Art Sparks event of the year takes participants on a six-hour ‘crawl’ through three venues.

Art Sparks curator Amy Tsilemanis said with the recent opening of Wolveschildren Art Space and live music venue The Eastern, and Babushka Bar right across the tracks, Humffray Street North had grown into an exciting creative precinct.

“It’s a good chance to let people know they’re here and as a showcase so people can see the amazing breadth of work that’s going on in our area across all mediums,” she said.

The event will kick off at 4pm at Wolveschildren Art Space with the opening of Miss-Print, a group exhibition of local female artists.

The session includes a chance to hear from visual artist Angela Robinson and learn screen-printing skills with Learn to Screen-Print’s Laura Day.

From 5.30pm to 8.30pm, The Eastern will treat patrons to a live music program of blues, reggae and soul, with a fundraising gourmet sausage sizzle for Ballarat Arts Alive.

Music and art will continue at Babushka Bar from 8.30pm.

There will be no problem knowing when to move on to the next venue, as participants will be guided by members of the Ballarat Ukulele Kollective.

Ms Tsilemanis said Ballarat Arts Alive was a volunteer-run group supporting the local arts scene.
