GALLERY: Rowing fever continues in Ballarat this weekend

LAKE Wendouree hasn’t seen nearly enough rowing for this week, with the Victorian State Championships kicking off just hours after the completion the Ballarat Associated Schools' Head of Lake yesterday.

More than 90 under-23 rowers took to the water late yesterday afternoon for time trails in the pairs and sculls to establish the order of seeds for today’s and tomorrow’s races.

Rowing Victoria CEO Nick Gall said the event hasn’t been seen on the shores of Lake Wendouree since before the drought era of the mid to late 2000s, but is excited for what lies ahead.

“It’s (the lake) fantastic – the new landings are sensational and everything is shaping up for a great weekend,” Gall said.

“They’re all big events this weekend, but there’s national selection hinging on the pairs and sculls races – so we’re going to see a lot of depth in those particular categories.

“It’s sort of a pathway for the national teams.”
