With the City of Ballarat already providing $250,000 towards the project, yesterday the city received a further $15,000 from the Bank of Melbourne.
Mayor Josh Morris said about $800,000 was needed for the project to be completed.
The council is partnering with the Touched by Olivia Foundation to bring the project to fruition.
“It is something we as a council are very keen on pursuing for all children,” Cr Morris said.
Cr Morris said it was important to remember the playground would not just be for children with special needs, but would be able to be used by everyone.
“It will be an awesome play space for everyone,” he said.
The Touched by Olivia Foundation has already provided six similar playgrounds across the country.
Cr Morris urged other groups and businesses to get behind the project, which will be community funded.
The play space will be located at Victoria Park on Sturt Street, directly opposite Loreto College.
