Athletics Victoria has programmed the event around Lake Wendouree later than usual in the XCR’14 Series, pushing it back from May to August.
Ballarat was round three in the cross country and road season last year.
It was the first individual race, following the cross country and road relay championships.
Lake Wendouree will this year be round seven on August 16.
Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre will for a third season field a combined team in the series, with Eureka, Harriers, Wendouree and YCW club runners competing under BRAC banner.
Centre president Sarah Davis said she hoping to see Ballarat more competitive this year.
She said while the combined team worked exceptionally well in its first year in 2012, it had not carried the same momentum through last season.
Provisional open age gradings for Ballarat:
