The offender used a screwdriver to scratch most of the cars on the outdoor yard at Eclipse Ford in Sebastopol.
Police arrived at the yard at 7.20pm, apprehending a man at the scene.
“We’ve got one offender who did all the damage,” Ballarat
Police Sergeant Ian Gibson said last night.
“We have one male in his mid-twenties assisting police with our enquiries.”
A member of the public witnessed the attack and alerted police.
The dealership also has electronic security including closed circuit TV.
While most of the damage was superficial, the bill could stretch into the tens of thousands.
“It is a shame but it will be business as usual on Monday,” Eclipse Ford dealer principal Gerald Meagher said last night.
“Only 30 to 40 per cent of our stock is on yard display, so we still have plenty of cars we can sell.
“We’re disappointed. Business is hard enough without this sort of thing happening.”
