The Irish and the Irish at heart have spent the weekend at pubs across the region gearing themselves up for St Patrick’s Day, which is set to be celebrated today.
Irish Murphy’s has been party central in Ballarat over the past couple of days and it will continue at 7am today with a full breakfast and pint of Guinness to get the day started.
There will also be live music throughout the day, as well as some dancing displays from the Australian Irish Dance Company.
Irish Murphy’s part owner Paul Cornish said the pub would probably get through 20 kegs of Guinness today.
He said the fact that St Patrick’s Day fell on a Monday this year wouldn’t discourage revellers from turning up in their droves.
“People come every year who have their RDOs booked in,” he said.
“The ones who have got to work will come in and have breakfast beforehand. By 5.30 you won’t be able to move in the place.”
Mr Cornish said many were already getting into the swing of things on St Patricks Day eve.
“It has been busy. It’s pretty festive down there,” he said.
“There’s plenty flowing down there right now.”
