O’Donnell wasn’t eligible to line up for the Ballarat McDonalds Red Devils in its washed out season opener against the Bentleigh Greens, but will still be part of the club’s first foray into NPL Victoria.
Coach James Robinson has been impressed with the level of professionalism he has brought to the young side.
“We had a good hit out on Saturday (in the Victorian Docherty Cup) and Danny performed really well for us,” Robinson said.
“He’s had to deal with new surroundings and new teammates but he goes about it really well and has adapted really well into the group.
“It was all about time – I knew it was going to take time for Danny to get the clearance with all the paperwork.”
Robinson was also pleased about the state of his side heading into this weekend’s match.
“Nearly everyone’s available and we’re constantly improving,” he said.
“Everybody understands the direction the club’s heading in and they’re all on board.”
The 20-strong squad will nonetheless be missing gun midfield recruit Dane Milovanovic, who is currently serving a a one-match suspension.
The only injury concern is the coach himself, who has been fully removed from the player list to give an opportunity to one of the Red Devils’ younger athletes.
