So it came as no surprise when the local truckie drove his bride, Melinda, and himself to their wedding at the Ballarat Lodge in his Westernstar truck on Saturday.
Plenty of heads were turning at the sight of the big white ribbons streaming down the large rig’s bonnet.
Mr Prendergast said it had always been his dream to use his beloved truck as his wedding car.
“It’s always been my plan to marry Melinda and have the truck as a part of it,” he said with a laugh.
“Generally, it’s just livestock, but today it’s my wife.”
His understanding bride said while it was purely Ben’s idea, it didn’t worry her.
“I don’t mind,” she said as she climbed up the truck’s steps.
“It’s been the perfect day.”
The pair have been together for five years and celebrated both their ceremony and reception at the Ballarat Lodge.
Ben’s father, local spud farmer Dominic Prendergast, said he had spent hours shining the truck in preparation for the special day.
“I don’t think it has ever been cleaner,” he said.
