A truck slammed into a bridge near Crown Casino, early Saturday afternoon at the corner of Flinders and Spencer streets. The vehicle appears to have become wedge under the bridge, with the truck balanced on its left set of wheels.

The truck was cleared by around 2pm on Saturday.

A police car was stationed on Spencer Street, near the corner of Collins Street, blocking south-bound traffic.

Yarra Trams said routes 70, 96, 109 and 112 are now running but have told customers to expect disruptions.

The incident did not interrupt train services overhead but trams in Flinders Street were blocked from the intersection because a tow truck was waiting on tram lines to remove the heavily damaged truck.

There are multiple signs on the bridge warning it has a low clearance of four metres.

Train commuters on the Cranbourne, Frankston, Pakenham and Sandringham train lines face up to 30 minute delays as Metro Trains undergoes scheduled maintenance.

A Metro Trains spokesperson said maintenance works in the City Loop, signalling upgrades and construction works at Springvale level crossing and a track fault at Richmond Station were the causes of the delay and urged passengers to plan their trips.

Trains will not run through the City Loop today or tomorrow while track upgrades take place.
