Wests Tigers' euphoria at blitzing competition heavyweights Manly took only 24 hours to crash to a sobering halt with confirmation of an ankle injury that is set to sideline the electric and in-demand fullback for an indefinite period again.

A day after the 34-18 win over the Sea Eagles at a drenched Leichhardt Oval, Mick Potter was left with the task of patching together his back line for Saturday's meeting with North Queensland and beyond after Tedesco and veteran five-eighth Braith Anasta (suspension) were both scratched.

The outlook on Tedesco is far more serious – the talented 21-year-old has ligament damage in the ankle he injured in the second half of Sunday's demolition of Manly, a setback that continues his cruel run with injury since his debut two years ago.

Tedesco's star has been rising in the opening five rounds of the competition, forming what has the makings of a lethal combination with young halfback Luke Brooks. But his emergence has again been punctuated by injury and on the same ground where his first-grade debut game came awfully unstuck in 2012 because of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

He was seeing a specialist on Monday afternoon, and the visit and further scans on Tuesday are expected to confirm another lengthy break on the sidelines.

After missing almost the whole 2012 season recovering from knee surgery, Tedesco returned last year only to play for months through the pain of a crack in his fibula. It was a season in which he made his representative debut in the City-Country Origin match, and his latest injury appears set to rule him out of contention for this year's edition of the annual rep game in Dubbo.

"Tedesco will have further scans on his ankle tomorrow morning and could potentially be sidelined for an extended period," a club statement said on Monday.

"While it is clear that Tedesco will miss this Saturday’s clash against the Cowboys, an exact return date will not be known until club medical staff receive the results of tomorrow’s scans."

The Tigers are desperate to retain Tedesco, who is off contract at the end of the season, with a long-term view, amid reported interest from a cashed-up Canterbury in need of a top fullback.

Anasta has received a grade-two shoulder charge for his hit on Manly winger David Williams, and will be banned for a week with an early guilty plea, but risks a two-match suspension if he challenges the charge.

Hit with injuries during a forgettable campaign last year, the Tigers were already without the option of including Tim Moltzen (knee) and Curtis Sironen (foot), both of whom are not due to return till at least next month.

Potter will name his line-up to take on the Cowboys on Tuesday, and the absence of 32-year-old Anasta creates an opportunity for new recruit Blake Austin. The 23-year-old utility, who joined from Penrith, has been impressive at five-eighth in the NSW Cup and slotted a last-gasp winning field goal in the second-tier side's 27-26 win over Manly on Sunday.

Another option for the Tigers is playing back-rower Liam Fulton in the halves alongside Brooks, where the 2005 premiership winner has been utilised in times of need.

Evergreen winger Pat Richards looms as the lead candidate to fill Tedesco's shoes.
