PRIOR to discovering his true passion, Bryce Spratling was a tradie working the mines in Western Australia.
It wasn't until the end of 2012 that he decided to trade-in his tools for the decks.
"I didn't do any music before this. I definitely appreciated it and went to gigs but I never played anything," Spratling said.
The former Ballarat resident is one-half of mash-up duo Bad News Toilet.
In the last 12 months, Spratling and his partner-in-crime Stagehand Sam have managed to make a name for themselves across the Australian DJ scene, landing a spot at Splendour in the Grass and warming crowds for the likes of Nina Las Vegas, Kele Orereke (bloc party) Alison Wonderland, What So Not and NorthEast Party house.
Spratling said what made his outfit unique was the element of interaction brought to the stage at every show.
"There are lots of DJs out there but I wanted to something with a little edge," Spratling said.
"I decided to add a costume show, putting on costumes relevant to all the songs, very much like a mini play which made the gigs a bit more visual and interactive with the crowd."
Although Bad News Toilet has shared its sounds with a decent chunk of the country, the duo hopes to spend the rest of this year increasing its online presence and adding more than just the live show to its resume.
"This year we want to try out some online content. Everything we have so far revolves around our live shows - we don't have a mixtape or original songs," Spratling said.
"I'll be doing that over the winter and then when spring comes we can come out and do a tour and hopefully land a few festivals before the end of the year."
