ALL bluestone cobbled signs will now lead to Buninyong.
Deputy Premier Peter Ryan yesterday unveiled four new gateway entry signs to the township as part of his whirlwind tour of Ballarat and surrounding areas.
The four signs resemble the shape of Mount Buninyong and are made from local materials.
DHT Consulting designer David Turley said he was approached by the Buninyong and District Community Association (BDCA) in 2012 for design concepts.
“They came up with some ideas and wanted the design to reflect the local community and local history,” Mr Turley said.
Stonescene Northumbria stonemason Billy Elliot said he wanted to use local materials for the project.
“All stone has been sourced and manufactured in Ballarat,” Mr Elliot said.
BDCA president Ian Salathiel and vice-president Barry Fitzgerald attended yesterday’s unveiling.
“The outcome is magnificent, it is beautifully designed and beautifully built. It is by definition unique,” Mr Ryan said.
“Most importantly, it reflects the community (deciding) what they wanted to see done in terms of the entrance to the town.”
