Backline role for Campbell Brown at Ballan in CHFL debut

BALLAN coach Mark Williams says fellow Hawthorn premiership player Campbell Brown is likely to play in defence during his debut appearance in the Central Highlands Football League tomorrow.

Williams told The Courier Brown was a “90 per cent chance” of playing a defensive role against Waubra, despite the former Hawk and Gold Coast Sun being fresh off a 10-goal haul for Greta in the Ovens and King competition last weekend.

“They’ve got a very, very good forward line. They are the benchmark in the league and (we want to) stay competitive all day and make Campbell’s time an enjoyable one,” Williams said.

Williams said he already had a good key forward option with Zac Peoples fresh off an eight-goal bag against Daylesford in round one.

Brown was named to start in the centre at selection last night.

The fixture is set to draw a massive crowd at Ballan, with at least three former AFL players to line-up in the senior clash.

In addition to Brown and Williams, former St Kilda forward Jarryd Allen will step out for the Roos.

There is doubt over ex-Hawk Tim Boyle, who was named as an omission for Waubra last night.

Round two is a big one in the Central Highlands, with Dunnstown hosting Gordon in a stand-alone Sunday fixture.

The league will then break for Easter with round three to get underway on April 25 with two Anzac Day encounters.

It has been confirmed that Springbank will host Buninyong at Wallace during the day before Clunes welcomes Bungaree under

lights. All other senior matches will be played the following day, April 26.
