ONE of the keys to winning an election is proving how well you know the local area.
But perhaps the Greens need a lesson in geography if they're going to challenge in the new seat of Buninyong - or "Beninyong" as it is listed on the party's official website.
To make matters a little more embarrassing, the Greens have clarified that "Beninyong" (which, as far as we can tell, doesn't exist) used to be known as "Bendigo East".
A redrawing of the electoral map last year changed the name of Ballarat East to Buninyong. Bendigo East has retained its name.
Maybe the change of electorate boundaries last year has confused them, because they also list "Buninyong" (correctly spelled this time) as a seat searching for candidates.
The mistakes, which appears on the party's "state election preselection noticeboard", may seem minor but often it's the little things that count in demonstrating your local credentials.
