Where: Mechanics Institute
More information: siff.net.au
A FILM festival exploring community strength and survival will take place in Ballarat next month.
The inaugural CAFS Survival International Film Festival will be held over three days in May in a bid to share stories of survival, inspiration and endurance.
CAFS SIFF director Neil Boyack said the festival came in response to the social services sector being a “tough and tiny marketplace”.
He said the event would not only raise the profile of CAFS but would also awareness of the social issues people faced every day.
“... I thought I’d run a festival which would create a focal point for the social services sector,” Mr Boyack said.
The program will feature more than a dozen films showcasing a range of cultures, from the Middle East to native America to indigenous Australia.
Guest speakers and performers, including radio personality John Safran and musicians Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier, will attend the festival.
Mr Boyack said the films would explore topics such as human endurance, indigenous survival, strength and cultural boundaries.
“Hopefully, people will walk away from the event with a raised awareness of social issues both global and local,” he said.
