Ben Myers said the pair came to the Myers family when they were only eight weeks old.
Harry, a kelpie, and Charlie, a kelpie border-collie cross, are the only working dogs on the family farm at Tourello.
“Both the dogs are from the Dunkeld, Southern Grampians region and both of them came through friends and acquaintances of ours,” Mr Myers said.
“We were after working dogs.”
While the pair are still quite young, Mr Myers said both showed quite a bit of potential as working dogs on the farm.
“They have had their basic training and still have a lot of training to go, but it is just a matter of time and finding some sheep to chase,” he said.
“They have potential, Harry has quite good brains and Charlie works quite hard to make up for any lack of capacity that he has.”
Despite the hard work the pair still get up to mischief around the family’s property.
“They like chasing the chooks – they need to be trained out of that.
“At the minute they are just kept separate but Charlie is pretty good at fetching a ball,” Mr Myers said.
“Sometimes there are issues having two male dogs working together.
“They do a lot of play fighting but when it comes to work, they work really well together.
“We have been very fortunate to have had these two as pups because we have been able to bring them up in a way that they are good around people and are very well natured.”
