The Blockbuster Reds were handed a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Doncaster Rovers at Morshead Park on Sunday.
Star striker Lulu Al-Huneidi was missing from the team that featured just four players from last year’s side – goalkeeper Jasmina Zdelar, defenders Hannah Kozaris and Holly Williamson and midfielder Jasmine Emselle.
The Red Devils began and ended the match on their terms but still conceded five goals between the 20-74-minute marks.
The loss was further soured by injuries to captain Williamson, Erin Plucke and new player Tess Meaden.
Earlier in the day the under-16 side had a tough first game against Brighton, going down 4-1, with youngster Kyra Cooney-Cross scoring her first goal for Ballarat.
Meanwhile the development squad defeated Doncaster 3-1, with Sophie Emota scoring a brace while Cassie Anstis chipped in with another.
