GREAT news this morning with the announcement that Ballarat will host an Asian Cup training camp for Bahrain.

Premier Denis Napthine made the announcement at a Committee for Ballarat breakfast on Friday morning.

More details will be revealed at a gathering at the Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility later in the morning.

The Asian Cup, which features 16 countries including Australia, starts on January 9.

WALKER IN BOOMERS SQUAD

FORMER Ballarat Miner Lucas Walker has been named in a 14-strong Australian Boomers training squad named  for the upcoming Sino-Australia Challenge against China.

Walker plays with Melbourne Tigers in the NBL.

He spent the 2013 SEABL season with the Miners.

 A final team of 12 will play in  the four-game tournament.
