FEDERATION University Australia has farewelled its first crop of students from its inaugural graduation ceremony which began on Friday.
Brothers Michael and Gabriel Saalfield, known more famously as musical duo The Royce Twins, are both graduating with a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science.
“It was excellent here, I had heaps of fun and made heaps of awesome friends. The rehab side of things was really hands-on, especially the massaging,” Michael said.
Raised in Mt Beauty, the brothers, who appeared on The X-Factor, have recently moved to Melbourne and will focus on their music career.
Gabriel said the course had given him an understanding of how to maintain his body.
Ryan Anderson is graduating with a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) and said it was great to learn about Ballarat while studying.
“A lot of the time we were off to doing placements,” Mr Anderson said.
“Being in a regional area, you come to get to know everyone.
“At the moment I’m teaching at Billanook College in Melbourne, but the aim is to get full-time work there and get to head of PE.”
More than 1000 students will graduate from FedUni under the University of Ballarat banner over coming days.
FedUni vice-chancellor David Battersby said the university was proud to have played a significant role in the students’ lives.
“The tradition of FedUni, and University of Ballarat preceding that, is two of three students will pick up employment in regional and rural areas,” Mr Battersby said.
“They are able to reach really important milestones in their life here, and they will have made friendships for the rest of their lives.
“We continue to be very humbled by the progress of our students and it’s great when staff and students reflect on why the do what they do.”
