The Apron Festival brings a different twist to the weekend of activities in Ballarat.
One of the organisers Morgan Wills said this was the first time the festival had been run and described the turnout as "fabulous".
"It is absolutely fantastic, they were queuing at the door this morning," she said.
"I think the thing with aprons is the nostalgia of it, people have been rummaging through their cupboards and finding aprons they have made 50 or 60 years ago at school.
"All of these collectors have come out of the closet , we have all of these collectors and we have an apron making competition of which there is ten categories, they have been judged and supported by local businesses."
Ms Wills is the owner of local craft shop The Crafty Squirrel, where her passion for vintage aprons is obvious.
"When I work in the shop I wear a vintage apron," she said.
"For the last two years I have done a little post on my Facebook page called vintage apron of the day.
"One of my customers came in and I said we should have a vintage apron exhibition."
Ms Wills said the event had been organised by herself and Heather Macleod and had required 18 months planning.
She also said the event was here to stay having committed to running it for the three years.
