A short film written, directed, produced and performed by five-year-old Arlen (with a tiny bit of help from mum Alex), will feature alongside nine other primary and secondary school film finalists to begin the Buninyong Film Festival on May 23.
“It’s about when kids rule the world,” Arlen said. “There’s no grown-ups. The grown-ups are taken by aliens in the night.”
Radio personality Father Bob Maguire will officially open the festival on Friday night to more than a hundred people before the screening of In Bob We Trust.
The festival will screen films from Saudi Arabia, Chile and Denmark.
Buninyong Film Festival committee member Lorraine Powell said the festival had received huge support from the community, including the CFA, under 17s soccer team and the African community group.
“It’s bringing international films to our community,” Ms Powell said.
The film festival will finish on Saturday night with the US music documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, winner of the 2014 Academy Award for best documentary feature.
