CHFL: Wickers march into finals

THE drought is finally over.

Creswick will play Central Highlands Football League finals for the first time since 1987.

The Wickers overcame a slow start to beat Rokewood-Corindhap by 23 points at Hammon Park this afternoon to secure eighth spot on the ladder.

Creswick's victory proved insignificant in the end as Gordon ended Beaufort's chances of finals with a 46-point victory at home.

The Wickers will meet reigning premiers Waubra in next weekend's elimination final after the Roos fell to a 37-point defeat in the battle for fourth spot against Daylesford.

The Bulldogs' win sets up a qualifying final clash with arch-rivals Hepburn.

Other round 17 winners were Ballan, which confined Illabarook to a winless season with a 118-point thumping, Bungaree by 66 points against Carngham-Linton, Buninyong by 125 points over Skipton, Springbank by 16 points in its match with Clunes, Hepburn by a massive 103 points over Newlyn and Dunnstown by five points against Learmonth.
