THE Musk Farm designed and created by the late Stuart Rattle has sold for $1.59 million at auction on Saturday.

The 1.2 hectare property, located five kilometres from Daylesford, was sold well above the $1.1 million reserve.
An adjoining 30 hectares of vacant land also sold for $660,000 on behalf of the Stuart Rattle Estate.
Pat Rice and Hawkins auctioneer Matt Childs said about 400 people attended the auction.
“There were about five or six bidders and the auction took a lot longer than normal as it was about half a million above the reserve,” Mr Childs said.
“The sale of all contents of the house were available for viewing on the day.”
Mr Childs said the property had gained a lot of interest from Melbourne and local buyers, with about 50 inspections conducted in the six weeks the property had been on the market.
“We have had a very busy campaign,” Mr Childs said.
“There was more interest in the property than there normally would have been, with the Stuart Rattle interest.”
Two Melbourne buyers had purchased the estate and the adjoining land separately.
Melbourne company Mossgreen auctioned the contents of the Musk Farm property on Sunday.
A total of 367 lots was listed, with everything from bookshelves, lamps, art work and furniture for sale.
Mr Rattle, a prominent Melbourne-based interior designer, was found dead in his South Yarra apartment early on December 9 last year.
The School Road property is in Musk, in the Woodend-Daylesford district.
It has a professionally designed interior and exterior, two bedrooms upstairs, bathrooms, a dressing room, English kitchen, a large outdoor patio, formal dining and lounge rooms and a sun room.
The Musk Farm was created from a former 1870s school house.
