Baw Baw falls to WestVic

WITH one regular season game to play, WestVic’s two victories for the season have come against Baw Baw.

Its other premiership point resulted from a draw with Central Victoria.

This time the Ballarat-based WestVic produced a four-goal second half.

WestVic scored early when Baw Baw deflected Rachel Lewis-Gray’s shot into the goals.

It was then just seconds before half-time when Claire McKenzie pounced on a rebound to open up a two-goal lead.

Kate Ryan then intercepted a pass and dribbled into the circle to find the net and followed up with a second.

Jacinta Polmear scored from the post and Hannah Maloney slammed home a shot.

WestVic’s last game is away against Latrobe on Saturday.

WESTVIC’s finals hopes are gone after a 2-1 loss to second-placed Werribee in men’s state league three.

WestVic went into the game fifth, less than one win outside the top four and needing to turn around its fortunes to get back into finals contention.

With captain Chris Vaughan back after missing two games with a hamstring injury, WestVic matched Werribee from the outset. Midfielders Chris Mitchell, Matthew Huf and Nic Don stepped up, and young strikers Cale Rout and Will Jackson proved a handful.

However, Werribee took the lead and then midway through the second half doubled the advantage.

WestVic gave itself a chance of at least sharing the points with a goal with 10 minutes to play, but it was too little too late.
