JUSTINE Clarke loves singing.
Even though the children's entertainer has no formal training, it hasn't stopped her from winning over the hearts of children and parents the country over.
"I've just got the singing disease," she said.
"I was singing all the time and heard other people sing and wanted to sing like them.
"Periodically I would take singing lessons but only to help correct things. I do my own scaled and exercises and just love it."
Clarke will head to Ballarat next month as part of her latest Australian tour I Am A ... Band.
The show will feature familiar songs from all three of Clarke's albums and will encourage young audiences to engage their imagination through words, song and movement.
Clarke said having three children of her own helped in the creation of her musical performances, whether on stage or as a presenter on Play School.
"When I first started on Play School I didn't have children but once I did I think it helped me," she said.
"You learn to engage how long a child's attention span is and you get an idea of how much energy you need to keep somebody's attention without it being forced in any way."
A long-standing presenter on Play School and a veteran of numerous live performances, Clarke has three top-selling ARIA nominated CDs and accompanying DVDs.
Last year, she was presented with the ARIA Award for best children's album for her fourth CD, A Little Day Out.
Clarke said the best thing about her job was seeing her audience make music.
"They've got an instrument called their voice and its through that that they have fun," she said.
"I think there's a real power in live music and live performance and I don't think you're ever too young for that to make an impact."
