Ballarat's iconic tourist attraction will be transformed into a winter wonderland with a world-class light show for its Christmas in July program.
The Christmas Wonder Lights show was developed by the team behind White Night Melbourne and Vivid Sydney. It will see images celebrating the season and Sovereign Hill attractions projected onto a dozen museum buildings along Main Street.
"It is the first time a regional town has ever worked with the team behind White Night," Sovereign Hill chief executive officer Jeremy Johnson said.
Christmas Wonder Lights will run from June 28 until July 13, beginning each evening at 5.30pm.
Sovereign Hill itself will open later to accommodate the show, until 6.45pm for the duration of the promotion.
The lights themselves will be set up from Wednesday.
This year will be Sovereign Hill's third Christmas in July. Apart from the light show, it will also feature Victorian-style Christmas trees, Christmas decorations, snowflakes and carolers.
Mr Johnson said the out-of-season festive season would attract visitors from Melbourne and other regions on the strength of an advertising campaign across the state.
