Dropped to the VFL last weekend, for the second time this season, Waite, 31, hurt his hip and required scans. However, no serious injury was found, and he trained lightly on Tuesday morning.

He had only two kicks and was held scoreless to three quarter-time for the Northern Blues on Sunday, and isn't expected to return to the senior side for Sunday's clash against St Kilda.

Waite's three-year contract expires after this season and already there has been speculation about whether the Blues should re-sign him. If the Blues do, it could be on a one-year deal with incentives.

Melbourne great Garry Lyon has suggested Waite could leave and ease the load on veteran Nick Riewoldt at St Kilda, while Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has suggested Fremantle, in need of a marking tall alongside Matthew Pavlich, could also be a good fit.

Speedy small forward Jeff Garlett, also banished to the VFL, faces an uncertain future with the Blues, who will continue to remould their playing list under coach Mick Malthouse. Garlett had only five disposals for the Northern Blues last weekend.

Ruckman Matthew Kreuzer rejoined training on Tuesday for the first time since aggravating a foot injury against Port Adelaide in round one.

He is still at least a month away from resuming. However, Patrick Cripps, last year's top draftee, could resume this weekend from a broken leg.
