A return bout between Danny Green and nemesis Anthony Mundine is closer than ever.

Green, 41, revealed today he had spoken to Mundine's manager Khoder Nasser only two days ago and a rematch was part of the discussion.

The main sticking point is likely to be what weight the pair will fight at.

It is widely accepted that Green was disadvantaged for their historic 2006 bout because he was forced to shed weight to fight at Mundine's preferred super-middleweight level, eventually losing a points decision after all three judges had Mundine ahead after 12 rounds.

But with a more suitable weight, a different attitude and years of added experience in the ring, Green is rightly confident of conquering the 39-year-old Mundine in any rematch.

"If he gets the fuzz back on his nuts, then I'd take the fight, sure," Green told 96fm this morning.

"I met with Khoder Nasser two days ago ... but that's all i'm going to say on that."

Mundine has mellowed since that Sydney bout too, showing more maturity in and out of the ring, including an impressive win over 'Sugar' Shane Mosley in 2013.

Green hasn't fought since beating Shane Cameron in Melbourne for the IBO Cruiserweight title in November 2012.

Despite their age, the fight would attract huge interest, especially in Western Australia, with Green's fans keen to see him knock 'Choc' off his block.

Huge paydays would also result for both fighters; the 2006 bout was the biggest pay per view event in Australian television history.

Nasser told Green at the meeting: "Choc's gonna have to fight 10-12 fighters to earn what he'd earn fighting you."

WAtoday.com.au understands the pair have an existing clause in their 2006 contract for a re-match in Perth.
