A small fire took hold in a machine at the McCain factory in Wendouree this morning.
Fire crews arrived before 7am but the incident was over quickly thanks to a built-in fire suppression system inside the french fry maker.
No-one was injured in the incident and no workers had to be evacuated from the 24 hour-a-day factory.
Fire crews also responded to reports of an explosion in Ballarat last night, but the job turned out to be a false alarm.
WEATHER
You guessed it. It's cold. Today will be even colder than yesterday, with just eight degrees forecast as the absolute top temperature we can expect.
Just for good measure, the weather gods have thrown in wind and some rain too. Lovely.
POLICE
A fugitive child sex offender who had escaped from an Ararat correctional facility was captured in Ballarat yesterday. Corrections Minister Ed O’Donoghue said the man would be charged with breaching his supervision order, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
He said the arrest would likely spark a review of procedures at Corella Place – a 40-bed Corrections Victoria-supervised transition facility for former prisoners.
