Ballarat MP Catherine King announced the funding at the Buninyong RSL sub-branch on Wednesday.
“Next year will mark the 100th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli and Buninyong RSL is contacting descendants of local enlisted personnel to obtain information and photographs to mark the Anzac centenary by telling their stories,” Ms King said.
“In addition, the grant will fund the restoration of honour boards and provide a new brass plaque in the Buninyong memorial garden explaining the origin and significance of the Lone Pine tree which has grown from a Gallipoli seed.”
Buninyong RSL member Max Thorne said the grant was “huge” for the community.
“This means a lot for Buninyong and surrounding districts because so many people from around here served and paid the supreme sacrifice,” he said. “Hopefully some of their descendants are still about and this will help find them.”
The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program has provided $125,000 for projects across Ballarat.
