Next he will line up a state field tournament in November through the bush at Morwell, where he ruled with his new bow at indoor nationals.
Rogers set a state record 597 points out of a possible 600 to nail his three-peat in the Australian compound bow masters division.
His son Mitchell, also aiming for a national three-peat, finished third in the under-20s and second in the simultaneous Victorian titles.
Rogers said Mitchell shot well – all it took was a slight misfire for a rapid drop in overall rankings.
“For indoor range, when you’re shooting at that distance (18 metres), you can drop one and go down to 10th place,” Rogers said.
“You have to be very, very accurate because the whole competition is really close.”
The Australian titles double for all state titles and are shot in three waves on two days.
Rogers shot in the early time slot, allowing him to keep an eye on his son’s progress in the same session while lining up at nearby targets.
Defending his Australian crown continues an impressive year for Rogers, who also won a state target in masters division earlier in the year.
