St Patrick’s College officially opened its new Delacombe-based gymnasium on Saturday, in what will be a massive boost for community gymnastics in the city.
The Brother BJ Scott Gymsports Centre, named in honour of former staff member and gymnastics teacher Br Bernie Scott, is a 580 square-metre facility, fully equipped with more than $250,000 in gymnastics equipment.
Although it is operated by St Pat’s, it is open to anybody to join and also hosts an array of activities, including ultimate frisbee or cheerleading.
Head coach at the centre Don Pennell said the aim was to provide a quality facility for the entire community.
“We think it’s the best of its kind anywhere west of Melbourne,” he said.
“The goal is to connect with local schools and anybody else who is interested.”
The gymsports centre is open from 10am-9pm on weekdays and is located in Stonepark Road, Delacombe.
