“I was 14 years old when I bought a 1963 Chevrolet Impala,” he said.
The purchase would be the first of many for the Flukes Hot Rod Club member.
Mr Darwin and members of the club have been the driving force behind one of Ballarat’s first indoor bike and car shows, Mechanica, to be held in September.
The two-day event, held across the Father’s Day weekend, encourages car lovers to display their pride and joy.
Everything from muscle, vintage and restored cars and hot rods and motor-
bikes will be on show.
“We will have trade stands, a mixture of modified and original cars, custom and comp bikes and a pin-up competition,” Mr Darwin said.
He said Ballarat car lovers would appreciate the festival.
“I think the people of Ballarat have missed having an event like this,” he said.
