We are deeply aware that justice not only needs to be done, but also needs to be seen to be done, to bring any sense of release to those who have suffered church-related sexual abuse and for the families of the dozens of Ballarat diocesan victims who have taken their lives as a result of church-related sexual abuse.

Moving Towards Justice expresses disappointment at the outcome of Farrell's appeal and reaffirms our support for survivors and families impacted.

We can understand survivors' perplexity with the idea that when a perpetrator lives a seemingly "blameless life" in the decades following the offences, any recompense can be put aside.

But can this mitigate against the damage and pain victims continue to carry throughout life?
