Cue has revealed its latest face: model-of-the-moment Juliana Schurig. The US model, currently so in demand worldwide that her agency must wish she had a twin (like the Stenmarks), stars in the clothing label’s Summer 14 campaign.

A new Cue girl is always news because the 46-year-old Australian clothing label has an uncanny talent for sniffing out megastars. Sharp-eyed Cue spies first spotted Aussie supermodel Catherine McNeil in 2006, long before she was catapulted to stellar status. The three-times Cue girl has since featured in a Pirelli calendar, walked for Givenchy, Dior and Gaultier among many more and currently stars in the Jimmy Choo Fall 14 campaign, filling the Choos of Nicole Kidman.
Maddison Brown, another Cue alumni, recently scored her first movie, Strangerland, with Hugo Weaving, Joseph Fiennes and – Nicole Kidman. The Sydney model, who fronted Cue’s last campaign, plays Kidman and Fiennes’ daughter in the Australian outback thriller, which is now in post-production.
S sees a pattern here: starring in a Cue campaign eventually leads to a Nicole Kidman-related career triumph.
Will this happen for Juliana Schurig? She already has quite a few career triumphs under her Gucci belt. The 20-year-old from New Jersey walked in more than 50 shows in all the fashion capitals last season and continues to be draped in all the designer threads she can handle.
And then came Cue, and the campaign shoot in Sydney, for which she was flown in specially from the US.
“I’ve really enjoyed shooting the Cue summer campaign,” Schurig told S. “The team really welcomed me, plus the clothes are beautiful!" Her first trip to Australia, in which she took in Bondi Icebergs, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House, was also “beautiful”, and she hopes to return soon; perhaps, she says, to do some kangaroo spotting.
Schurig may not realise it, but her work for Cue has already brought her into contact with an Aussie icon. For nearly five decades the Sydney label has remained resolutely family owned and still manufactures almost everything locally. Designs are created in Cue’s Surry Hills headquarters and the company is Ethical Clothing Australia accredited.
The Summer 14 campaign, shot by Paul Scala, features Schurig in vibrant prints and elegant, fluid silhouettes with flashes of sequins, sunray pleats and shoestring straps.
Back in the US, the latest Cue girl is in no rush to star in movies or Pirelli calendars or hang out with Our Nic. “I am a very go-with-the-flow person and am enjoying the journey I’m now on,” she says. “But who knows? I've always wanted to start my own business at some point – as long as I'm doing something I love.”
