The former St Kilda player cut the tops off two fingers on his left hand in an accident the day before the Roos’ round 14 loss to Central Highlands Football League ladder-leader Bungaree. But it is hoped the key forward will be back for the team’s first final in just over two weeks’ time.
Jarryd was working on his other brother’s house in Riddells Creek when he cut his fingers with a drop saw and had surgery on the hand the following day.
Jason said Jarryd had returned to training, but had not recommenced ball work.
“It’s up to how long it takes to heal now,” he said.
“The first final he will probably play.”
Jarryd joined the club as an off-field assistant coach last season, but made his return to the field from a hip injury that ended his AFL career in round one this year.
He has played 13 games in 2014 for a return of 46 majors to be fifth behind Ballan’s Zac Peoples on the league goal-kicking chart.
His injury is among a handful of concerns for the Roos, which climbed back into the top four following a big win over Carngham-Linton on the weekend.
Fellow forward Jacob Spolding looks a few weeks away from recovering from an ankle problem sustained in the loss to Bungaree, while gun onballer Jason Delaney is expected back for the final home and away game of the year after a couple of weeks resting on the sidelines.
