Seven students participated in this year’s concert, titled Spinning Stars.
School carer Christine Thomson, who has been involved with the annual concert for the past two years, said the Ballarat YMCA Movement and Music Program for children with additional needs was an initiative designed to support students’ physical, social, language and emotional development.
“They all love the music, the movement and the ability to be able to express themselves,” she said.
She said students had rehearsed once a week since January to put on the show.
Dance instructor Talya Saunders worked closely with the students, choreographing moves to Greased Lightning, Footloose and Katy Perry’s Fireworks.
“Some of the students come just for this program,” she said.
“They just love coming and dancing.”
Ballarat YMCA’s next Movement and Music Program concert will be performed in December with rehearsals set to get under way in the coming weeks.
