The 19-year-old man hit by a car on Mair Street last week will be fined for possessing spray paints in a public transport zone.

According to witnesses, the man was interviewed by Protective Services Officers at the very end of the Coffee Palace Lane ramp down to Mair Street, and fled when asked for a receipt for the paint.
He was then hit by a Holden Commodore travelling towards Lydiard Street, sustaining leg and facial injuries.

Ballarat Base Hospital confirmed the man was no longer in intensive care, but could not say whether he had been discharged.
He could be fined up to $3609 for possessing spray paint without a “lawful excuse”.
Police at the scene said the incident would be investigated, but a spokeswoman said the final outcome was the man being issued with an infringement notice for the spray paint.
