Cobras young guns Hamish Coulton (under-16.5 seniors) and Riley Bishop (under-14 seniors) claimed Ballarat Football League junior best and fairest awards.
The 17-year-old Coulton was a commanding winner of the top junior grade honour, collecting 36 votes to be 18 clear of runners-up Ryan Thompson (East Ballarat) and William Hoye (North Ballarat).
Playing in the midfield, ruck and up forward, Coulton registered 11 best-on-ground performances in a standout season.
“It was probably one of my better years, but I didn’t have any expectations (of winning),” Coulton, who has kicked 33 goals, said.
Bishop, 14, clocked up a massive 38 votes – including 11 best-on-ground performances – to finish 11 clear of Sebastopol’s Jack Butler.
“I’m just fitter, starting to understand the game more and we have a good team,” Bishop, who played through the centre all year, said.
The boys also claimed Robert Allan Medals in their respective age groups.
North Ballarat midfielder Jamie Quick capped off a standout season with the under-12 best and fairest.
Quick – known to his teammates as “Fev” – finished the count on 26 votes to be four clear of East Ballarat’s Harry Sharp.
The 12-year-old had seven best-on-ground performances, polled votes in 10 of the 18 matches in 2014 and kicked 13 goals.
