Former Bendigo lawyer Euan Vance, 53, who is accused of siphoning more than $1.2 million from an elderly client's bank accounts, made the diary entry on his laptop computer about staff member Jessica Taylor, a single mother-of-two, on July 6, 2011.

He had separated from his wife of 23 years more than a year earlier.

"Last Thursday I had to sack Jess for the second time and last time," the diary entry, which was read out in the Supreme Court, said.

"I found out that she and Liam are living together full-time and have been for a long time. At first she tried to deny it but finally admitted it but said she was trying not to hurt me.

"It appears that she doesn't love me at all but only loves Liam.

"She buys sexy underwear and wears it to bed each night for Liam.

"She wants to marry Liam. She never had an intention of being with me ... she was only interested in my money, not me at all, so I have told her now that I won't be taking her back. I am sad because I did love her but this explains why she didn't want anything to do with me outside of work and wasn't interested in me at work.

"I am now grieving the death of our relationship."

Asked by Crown prosecutor Daryl Brown if he had written the diary entry, Vance replied: "Yes. And how embarrassing is it for a private diary note that was never intended for public consumption to be shared with everybody who's just heard it?"

Vance, who had bought two cars for Ms Taylor and a car for her grandparents, admitted telling her he was open to having a relationship with her.

Vance, who now lives in Queensland with his second wife, was giving evidence during a pre-sentence hearing after he pleaded guilty to a number of charges including making a false document, obtaining a financial advantage by deception and obtaining property by deception.

He allegedly used some of the $1.2 million taken from his client George Cutts' accounts to buy cars for female staff he wanted be in a relationship with, as well as two properties.

When he was arrested in July 2011, he had $10,000 in cash in his coat pocket. A later search of his Harcourt North home, south of Bendigo, uncovered a safe buried in a shed containing more than $340,000 in cash.

Vance denied buying cars for several female staff members to try to win their affections, saying he was just a friendly person.

Vance, who is representing himself, has previously told the court he did not use a single dollar from Mr Cutt's accounts for his own purposes.

Vance will be sentenced on September 5.
